Lucy Howlett

I adore learning more about the wonderful human body, and am passionate about helping others become strong and balanced in body and mind through yoga, meditation and fitness. I love teaching baby massage too, helping babies to relax and develop good posture from an early age.

What keeps you busy outside of class?
As well as a being a Mum, I run my own business teaching yoga; 121's, classes and workshops, pre and postnatal personal training and yoga and teaching baby massage. I'm also a clinical massage therapist. For my own health and wellbeing, I like to do yoga, meditate, Kettlebell training and run outside - and dance!

What is your fitness background?
I have always loved being active. From doing gymnastics since I was little, I decided to study Dance at university. After graduating I worked at a top London health club, The Third Space, where I initially taught classes before soon becoming a personal trainer. I've practiced yoga since age 15 but became qualified as a yoga teacher in 2013. I enjoy and really see the benefit of combining fitness and yoga, for my own training/practice and development, as well as those of my clients.

Do you have any tips for a beginner to your class?
Leave your ego at the door. Listen to your body. And ask if you have questions, or a pose feels awkward - please don't be shy. Yoga gives you the opportunity to explore your whole self; potentially so much more than 'just stretching'. Don't worry about achieving a picture perfect posture, that's not what Yoga is about. Allow your mind to quieten and be present whilst releasing both physical and emotional tension.

What’s your favourite quote?
"The dance is a poem, of which each movement is a word." Mata Hari

What are you interests out of work?
Listening to music, dancing, walking in nature, making healthy sweet treats, enjoying good food and wine with friends/family.
